Housing Choice Voucher Specialist

(Please click the job title link above to review the full job description) Helena Housing Authority (HHA) is recruiting for a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Specialist.  This position is responsible for providing customer service, determining eligibility, calculating income, applying policies, operating computers, and ensuring compliance to provide Housing Choice Vouchers to clients of the Helena Housing Authority.  This position processes applications for HCV programs, administers and follows policies and procedures established for the Housing Authority and maintains records and furnishes reports on such activities.  Reports to the Operations Manager.  The HCV position may include working on HHA’s permanent supportive housing voucher programs providing housing vouchers for persons and families who are homeless in our area including veterans and persons with disabilities, requiring close coordination and communication with landlords and program participants as well as community healthcare and social service agencies. Duties include:
  • Explain program requirements and procedures, collect applicant information, determine eligibility for the housing choice voucher program and maintain applicant records. 
  • Meet with applicants to explain detailed requirements and assist them with completing applications. Waitlist management. Notify applicants of decision based on voucher availability.  
  • Complete the process to award vouchers, calculating rents and housing assistance; coordinate with landlords, arranging inspections and ongoing monitoring of recipient’s eligibility.
  • Conduct reviews of continued eligibility for vouchers that includes income verification, change in family status, adherence to occupancy rules, initiating inspections etc.  Terminate clients from the program who no longer are eligible or have violated rules.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records of program activities for Director of Finance to ensure accurate housing assistance program policies are followed.
  • Performs a variety of other duties in support of ongoing HHA functions.
Qualifications:  The position requires education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree with coursework in business, communication and/or office technology, and two years’ experience in social service, housing, customer service, and/or office management.  Attention to detail, customer service, communication, math, and office software skills required.  Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; and the ability to pass a criminal background check. Pay Range: Starting pay is $14.24 to $16.94 depending on qualifications plus a generous benefit package. Maintenance Technician

(Please click the job title link above to review the full job description) Helena Housing Authority (HHA) seeks a Maintenance Technician responsible for maintaining and repairing buildings, electrical, mechanical & plumbing systems, and grounds features. Duties include:
  • Maintenance and repair of doors, windows, gates, walls, floors, roofs, and other building features using knowledge of carpentry, cabinetry, drywall, tiling, roofing, painting, and skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools;
  • Repair and maintenance of building utilities, appliances, and mechanical systems using knowledge of plumbing, electrical, heating/ventilation/air conditioning, and welding;
  • Manual and semi-skilled tasks in maintaining the landscape using knowledge of lawns, trees, shrubs, and other plants and a variety of hand and power equipment;
  • May involve remediating contaminated units, conducting inspections and pest management.
Qualifications:  Requires the equivalent of high school graduation with vocational coursework and three years’ experience in construction and/or maintenance, a driver’s license, and acceptable background check.  Must be available to work overtime and/or after-hours, if needed. Custodian/Groundskeeper

(Please click the link above to review the full job description) Helena Housing Authority (HHA) is recruiting a Custodian/Groundskeeper responsible for performing a variety of manual and semiskilled tasks in maintaining facilities, grounds, and landscaped features to ensure orderly, functional, safe and aesthetically pleasing appearances of assigned areas.   • Monitoring grounds and facilities to remove trash and report unsafe conditions;
  • Caring for lawns, pruning trees and shrubbery, landscaping flower beds, etc. using mowers, trimmers, power tools and hand tools;
  • Providing proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, or other grounds features;
  • Operating vehicles and powered equipment, as well as diagnosing and performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance on machines, tools and equipment;
  • Providing cleaning, custodial and maintenance services to ensure buildings and facilities are clean, orderly and safe which includes removing garbage from interior and exterior of facilities, cleaning floors, walls, windows, cabinets, appliances, plumbing fixtures, etc. as well as performing minor repairs and painting; and
  • Proposing and implementing regularly scheduled deep cleaning activities.
Qualifications:  Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent; two years related janitorial and grounds keeping experience; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; and acceptable background checks.  Must be available to work overtime and/or after-hours, if needed.
